What's Happening

Hello Class,

With the coronavirus temporarily shutting down school we are converting to an online classroom. However, this is particularly tricky for ceramics -a GE hard skill oriented course that requires specific materials and equipment. I'm not going to lie, it would be very hard to have you guys continue this course at home so we're going to shift gears in a fairly radical way.

To maintain the hard skill oriented learning I want us to turn to food for the remainder of the semester. We all have time now to try out some new cooking projects that we can learn a lot from. Cooking is incredibly undervalued, and shares an undeniable relationship with ceramics. Once a week you guys are going to pick out a fairly rigorous cooking project, post the original recipe, images of your progression and results, and write about what you learned and how you would modify it for next time.

The idea is that this blog we will collectively make will turn into an online cookbook. I want you guys to learn how to make everything. We often buy processed food at the store: precooked chicken, mustard, kimchi, and so on... I want you guys to make everything from scratch. Pick out something you have never made from scratch that you love to eat, I will post tons of resources, and feel free to go through them and see what sparks your interest.

You will need to cover some ground as well, you will need to have one recipe cover each of the following categories: something fermented, something cooked in the oven, something foreign, and something unique to your or your family that you cook with your family. Obviously feel free to go beyond the short list of resources I have posted and pursue your personal culinary interest.

How to post: First post the recipe you want to cook, I will comment on it if I approve it or how I want it modified. From there you will go ahead and conduct your project and edit the post with images of the process and results, as well as modifications. Be sure to add your name at the bottom.

Please have your first recipe request posted by Monday the 23rd.

Let's make it work!
